Nigeria: Buhari Could be Impeached
President Muhammadu Buhari could confront impeachment procedures if the security summit to be held by the House of Representatives neglects to advance the security condition in the country.
Dachung Bagos (PDP, Plateau), who represents Jos South/Jos East government constituency of Plateau State, said the security summit is to be coordinated by the House is the last chance for the President.
He said this while showing up on a Channels TV Sunrise Daily program on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the House introduced an exceptional impromptu council, led by the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila. The ad-hoc group will put together a security highest point between May 24 and 28.
Mr Bagos said if the summit neglects to yield the required changes, the officials will require the resignation of the president or denounce him.
“After this last resort with this summit, if nothing is done by the executive, after some months, we will call for the resignation of the president. We have the power to impeach the president.
“…. So this is like the last resort, we are taking it seriously. We know the discussion we had to make. We know how members were being talked to.”
He added that “We can assure Nigerians that this summit, the National Assembly will hit the gavel and tell the president if he cannot protect lives of Nigerians, he should let someone else do it”
On Tuesday, the House had a leader meeting during which 12 goals were reached including putting together the summit.
It is hazy if Mr Bagos' assertion has the expansive help of the legislators. The decision party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), controls the two offices of the National Assembly.
The president has challenged the House in past endeavors to consider him responsible for general frailty in the nation, remembering a greeting by the House for the repercussions of the Zabarmari killings in 2020. He had said he would go to the gather by the legislators yet later declined to.
As the security condition in the nation declines with April seeing more than 239 individuals killed and 44 kidnapped. Besides, states like Niger and Yobe have seen an expansion in terrirists ssuming control over domains.
