Isaac Promise: Former Nigerian International Footballer Dead at 31
Tributes have been pouring in after the announcement Isaac Promise's death by his American football team Austin Gold. Aged 31, it was announced he passed on Wednesday evening, the cause of death not specified.
Austin Bold have since posptponed their game on Saturday due to the news. The club's chairman, Bobby Epstein, said: 'The greatest loss a team can suffer is not on the scoreboard, it's the death of a fellow teammate.'
Promise was capped three times by the Nigerian Super Eagles and was captain of the Under-23 side which won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing OIympics.
Promise made his senior national team debut in 2009, but only played three games and scored one goal.
Before passing away, he had several stints across Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United States.
Promise played for 12 years in Saudi Arabia and mostly Turkey, which is where he played alongside former Premier League player Anton Ferdinand at Antalyaspor.
Room-mates at the Turkish club for the 2013-2014 season, Ferdinand posted on Instagram: 'I'm in shock... you was my room mate at Antalyaspor RIP Isaac Promise rest well bro my prayers are with your family and friends at this time.'
