Are Doctors in Nigeria Still on Strike?

Why are Doctors in Nigeria on Strike?

THANK YOU for being part of our struggle. We would like to update you on the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD).

The Academic Staff Union of Universities commenced their nationwide strike on November 4, 2018, following the failure of the Federal Government to implement the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement. After almost three weeks of incessant meetings of ASUU and the Federal Government, ASUU and the Federal Government on Friday, November 30, 2018, resolved to resume the strike on December 5, 2018. However, the University Docters have already commenced the strike action and the strike entered the 9th day today (December 5, 2018).

I am a Doctor, but I am not on Strike.

I will not be on Strike if the codeine crisis is corrected.

Though, If I am on Strike, I will be on strike for only one reason and that is to prove to my countrymen and other Nigerians in diaspora, especially those in USA that Doctors are human and not devils like the government and media often portray us to be.

I cannot go on strike if there are bills to pay

I cannot go on strike if I have lives to save.

I cannot go on strike if I don't have patients to see.

I cannot go on strike, if I am not ready for mockery.

I cannot go on strike, if the patients are not ready.

I cannot go on strike, if the hospital administrators and all the other professionals are not ready.

Let's be practical and realistic here.

What is the Nigerian Government Doing to Resolve the Issue?
