Hushpuppi to be Sentenced in US Court on Valentine's Day

77 Naa

Ramon Abbas, otherwise known as, Hushpuppi, will be sentenced on February 14, 2022. The United States Attorney's Office at the Central District of California announced this.

In a plea deal, signed by Hushpuppi  and his lawyer Louis Shapiro, Hushpuppi has pled guilty to multiple offences such as internet fraud and money laundering.

Hushpuppi faces “20 years’ imprisonment; a 3-year period of supervised release; a fine of $500,000 or twice the gross gain or gross loss resulting from the offence”.

Additionally, the court had requested the Federal Bureau of Investigation to arrest the suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, for his alleged role in a $1m fraudulent scheme purportedly executed by Hushpuppi and five others.

The Dubai Police in the United Arab Emirates had in June 2020 captured Hushpuppi and his posse. They were subsequently removed to the US for indictment by the FBI.

The FBI Special Agent, Andrew Innocenti, had claimed that Hushpuppi gotten the assistance of Kyari after a "co-conspirator," Chibuzo Vincent, supposedly threatened to expose the  $1.1m fraud committed against a Qatari finance manager.

Innocenti, who said he had voice calls and WhatsApp threads between Kyari and Hushpuppi, alleged that Hushpuppi paid police officer Kyari N8m or $20,600 for the arrest of Vincent.
